"I just love books." - Linda Howell
Linda Howell, long time Fern Hill Neighborhood resident of Tacoma, Washington, opened her first bookstore, "Linda's Books", bookstore
in Tacoma's Fern Hill Business District back in 1996. If you are a Fern Hill area resident you may know her from the PTA of area schools, such as Alice M. Birney Elementary, John S. Baker Middle School, or Mount Tahoma High School in Tacoma,
or from her civic involvement with the South End Neighborhood Council (SENC), or other neighborhood involvement like Neighborhood Block Watch. In 2002, Linda opened her second bookstore, just a couple of doors away, to
make more books available to her customers.
Diana Brown, owner of Boomerang Books (also in Tacoma) and Linda had talked of combining their efforts in business. In 2003, another building in the Fern Hill Business District became available
and Linda combined her two bookstores, Linda's Books and Fern Hill Books, together with Diana Brown's Boomerang Books. Now as partners, their inventory of the three former bookstores is now Park Avenue Books in a new, single location.
With thousands of books wall-to-wall, you are sure to enjoy browsing this neighborhood's new favorite haunt. The familar Fern Hill Post Office is half a block away at the Fern Hill Center on Park Avenue.
Linda and Diana are proud of the rapport they have established with local folk and some of the neighborhood youth who also come to get their reading material. With literally thousands of paperback and hardbound books there is something for everyone's
interest and age group.
